Can we shift the conversation from Kanye STILL being upset about his mom, to substantive conversations about mental illness?
Kanye's mother died almost a decade ago, his behavior, although he may still be grieved is not healthy or normal at this point solely because his mother died. And even if that IS the case, the fact that his mother's death still sends him into a manic state is STILL a form of mental illness.
Let's also be clear that some of your most creative people suffer from personality or mental disorders. I truly believe that art is their conduit for healing... And that it is what God graced them with to also inspire the world.

Kanye IS likely mentally ill. It is okay to say it. It is okay to believe it. It doesn't take away from his personality, his creativity, his genius. But, let's not use his mom as a way to undermine or ignore a very serious issue.
Obviously, this is an armchair diagnosis, I'm no doctor and I'm not pretending to be. A professional needs to evaluate Kanye, as is being done at this very moment. Clearly from the past days events, including his being placed under psychiatric evaluation, we know he is at least mentally disturbed at this point.
I just find it interesting that we can talk at length, analyze, gossip, about any celebrity happening that is neither relevant to our lives or important.
But, when something happens that shows our "idols" ARE breakable, that they are human, that they have experiences just like the rest of us...people think it's inappropriate to speak about. Maybe we should talk about that MORE, so that they don't feel so alone, so they don't have undue expectations placed on them by FANS.
I am glad Kanye had a break down. Not because I want to see any human being at their lowest, but for a few reasons:
1. He's getting help to confront whatever deep-seated problems he has.
2. It brings to the forefront issues surrounding mental illness, personality disorders, grief, depression, etc...
3. It helps people of color come to terms with our own humanity, particularly that young black boys and men are attempting suicide at higher rates than ever. We are not unbreakable.
And at this point, stop saying Kanye is "just talking," is too much of a genius, that we don't know, whatever...HE WAS BAKER ACTED. Clearly, he has some mental issues, even if they aren't long term. We love him the same.
